On 24th February 2020 a number of Britain's leading shooting and rural organisations announced that they wanted an end to the use of lead and single-use plastics in shotgun ammunition for live quarry shooting within five years. This statement fell in line with the views of many international shooting organisations and new regulations put in place around the world as humanity tries to reduce its historically toxic impact upon our environment in all sectors of our society.
The challenge facing bird shooting in Britain has been how to come up with an alternative to lead shot, both in terms of cost and effectiveness. Steel shot has been the overwhelming choice as an alternative, but steel shot cartridges come with their own set of limitations.
Twenty years ago, a small family-run French gun and cartridge manufacturer, Armurerie Vouzelaud, established in 1888, had the foresight to begin development of an effective steel shot cartridge to compliment their range of lead shot ammunition. By 2008, this cartridge had become a reality.
Over the subsequent decade and a half, the Vouzelaud steel shot cartridge range was extensively and successfully tested on their own shooting grounds and in "real world" situations, with millions of rounds fired through a large range of shotguns, both new and old. The French branded cartridge was, and is, a great success for a wide range of users in Europe.
Now, in 2022, this cartridge has been rebranded and launched to the British market through Vouzelaud's UK importer and partner, Charles Lancaster Gunmakers Ltd.
We are delighted to introduce you to Vouzelaud's LIVE QUARRY and LIVE QUARRY VINTAGE steel shot shotgun ammunition.
